The sounds of battle were all around him. Screams, shrieks of death, the smell of fire and blood, it all hit his senses put of the blue. He opened his eyes to see shapes fighting in the background, but only one thing cought his eye. The almost insane man running at him, full armor with a sword out. His own eyes went wide, and he could see the raging passion in the attackers face. Quickly he reached behind him and pulled the twin Colt Pythons out infront of him, but not fast enough to get off a shot. The strange man swung and he had to duck out of the way. Instantly he was on the defensive, trying to stand to get a shot off. He rolled backwards, sitting up and firing once before he fell back over with his momentum. Sitting and crouching, he did not see the man, but he had a feeling he had missed. He heard a yell and turned to see the attacker in the air coming downward in a slash. Before he could get his pistols up to block......
Caenen jumped up in a cold sweat. He was breathing heavly, and after such a weird dream, could only hope he had not been screaming. Around the cold fire, everyone else was already out for the night, and at his best guess it had to be around 2:00 in the morning. He stood slowly, and looked around. Katerina's bedroll was empty, so it was most likely her watch. He had not drawn one that night, and had laughed because he needed a good nights sleep. "So much for that.." He thought to himself. Picking up his gun belt, he froze for a moment as the dream flashed back to him. "What the hell was that..?" Slowly he put the old leather around his waist and picked up his black jacket. He walked towards the cliff.
Katerina had her eyes attached to the scenery. The only way to keep herself awake was to move about, so she was walking back and forth. The cave the group usually slept in was easily watched over by just a ledge over a cliff. You could see for miles around and anyone trying to get up the ledge was easily seen. She sighed and sat herself down against the wall pulling the coat tight against her. She had never used the Berretta she had, and never hoped to. It's metal was cold againse her skin. "Better not be slacking off on your watch..." Said a familar voice behind her. She jumped, but she knew right afterwards who it was and smiled. "Caenen, you shoulden't scare a girl like that." She gave him a shy smile.
Caenen's own smile shined dully in the greyish moonlight. He sat down beside her looking at the sky. They had known each other since they were little. He was Irish born, but had no accent or memory of his homeland. His family had come over to America soon after he turned 2. She had been living in the house next door, and They had become friends within the week. They had been together ever since the "End of the World." Life had gotten rough, but her loveable attitude and his combat skills had gotten them through the toughest of times.
"...Caenen?" She said again and he shook his head letting his eyes fall to hers. "Yeah... Kat?" He had a steady voice, one that was almost cold at all times, but had that edge of caring in it. "I just wanted to know if you were all right, you got quiet there. You were tossing and turning in your sleep too." She was always concerned about his health. That seemed logical since both their parents had dissappeared and she felt like she needed to be a motherly figure in someone's life. He gave a joking smile "No mother, I am fine mother." She glared at him, but they both started laughing into the night.
"Kat, did you pull watch till Dawn?" Caenen said after a little while. "Yeah, I was supposed to wake Dallas up but I thought he could use the sleep." Dallas was the name they gave to David Strivens because he was from Dallas, Texas. He had moved to their school only a few weeks before all this had started. "Well, go to sleep, I'm not anytime soon, and you could use the rest." Caenen said standing up and stretching while holding his hand for her to take and stand up. "Are you sure? I mean, If you are, I'll take you u..." He nodded and gave her a little push before she finished and she shrugged. "Fine have it your way..." She smiled then put her hands on her hips and said in a deep voice "You better not slack on watch!" They both shared another laugh, and she headed off to bed. "Goodnight Kat..." Caenen said into the dark. He leaned his head back against the wall looking at the sky...
